Focusing on the Access Points in Wireless Network Security Software
Wireless network security software serves a specialized purpose in a computer network. Because business is so commonly done with remote and mobile devices these days a new breed of network security issues has arisen.
Laptops, cell phones and other electronic communication devices make for excellent and timely business communications. However, the presence of these devices is a key point of entry into a company’s computer network and a major vulnerability. Because wireless networks or simply wireless parts of a wired network transmit through the airwaves, the signals can be fairly easily intercepted.
Intruder Alert!
Intruders and network attackers have various means at their disposal to enter a wireless network. They can disguise their signals to look like those of another network user and gain network access that way. They can also create completely false signals that look like they are from thousands of legitimate users on a network. In this way they can wander freely within the network, at least for a limited time, without detection. From a wireless access point a malicious and disruptive bombardment of abnormal network traffic can be launched.
On two fronts, wireless network security software prevails. Many attacks are only intended to cause disturbance or damage to a network. The other objective is to steal data. Of course both types of malevolent activity are security threats, data theft is the most serious offense, since recovery from that is less likely. Nonetheless, network security software is at work protecting the network.
