We all know that applications are what we use to access everything on our computers. Application security takes care of these applications and allow you to secure individual files for limited access or change privileges.

Application Security on a User Level

In a computer network there are many levels of security to prevent data from unauthorized use. Application security is one of the most basic ways of protecting data. In many applications especially business and office applications, there are functions available to password individual files from being viewed and edited.

This could be a document made in a word processing program a spreadsheet or a database among other things. The original creator of the file has the option of setting the file up to restrict its usage. Usually the passwords for the file access can be set separately to allow reading of the file and modifying the file separately. Without either password no access to the file is available at all.

Secure actual files!

Also on a per file basis anyone with access to the folders where the application files are stored can also set Read Only attributes on singular files. This makes them viewable to all but they cannot be deleted. A network administrator also sets sharing rights and permissions to users on a case-by-case basis. On this level, an entire application can be restricted from user access.

Privacy of utmost importance

Application security has nothing to do with incoming threats of viruses or other kinds of network attacks. The network administrator deals with these security issues in different ways. This protection is limited in size to individual files and must be designated manually for each file as it is created. However, application security is at the forefront of keeping information private when it needs to be.
