Computer Network Security Software for Administrators
Computer network security software starts with the basics in the operating system used by the main network servers. As the first internal line of defense against unauthorized viewing editing or deletion of data permissions and passwords are assigned to network users. Within application programs too users may be instructed to password their work such as documents and databases.
Threats from within and without!
Most computer network security software though deals with threats from outside the network and its data. As data is sent through the network, (which is the essence of the network’s purpose) it is sent in small units called packets. Even though these are almost always encrypted data thieves are interested in intercepting these packets. The many different encryption schemes are meant to make the data unreadable. However, once enough encrypted data can be captured it can all be decoded eventually.
Sophistication means high cost
Some computer network security software is highly sophisticated. This is also very costly technology and may even be custom programmed for an organization’s specific needs. Depending on the sensitivity of the data there may be several layers of encryption making the chances of decoding the transmitted data packets difficult. Although in many cases, the relative risks of data interception are not as great and less encryption and less software expenditures may be determined by that factor.
Computer network security software may be complex and may be sold, installed and configured by experts or consultants that specialize in this field. This is often a wise technology investment since the protection of the data is at stake.
